4:00 – 5:00 p.m. - School Law and Social Media, Part 1
Presenter: Johnny Purvis
This two-part session will provide informative, up-to-date information to guide and assist superintendents and administrators regarding the challenges of social media. Part 2 will be presented Monday, Feb. 26 at 1:30 p.m. Emphasis will be placed on the interaction and dependence of school administrators on case law, AG opinions, Mississippi laws, federal laws, the United States Constitution, and campus common law as they go about fulfilling their administrative duties and responsibilities.
Johnny R. Purvis retired in August 2003 (30.5 years) from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg as a professor in the Department of School Administration, director of the Education Service Center in the College of Education and Psychology, executive director of the Southern Education Consortium, and director of the Mississippi Safe School Center. After retiring from USM he was hired as a professor in the Department of Leadership Studies at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway and retired Dec. 31, 2013. Before embarking on the preceding career paths, he served as a teacher, coach, and school administrator in Louisiana. He also served on the Lamar County Mississippi School Board for 12 years. In addition, he retired as a law enforcement officer having served in both Mississippi and Arkansas.
