The ELA MSCCR standards emphasize challenging shifts that require students to think differently, teachers have to change instructional strategies, and administrators have to reconsider the support needed in order to enable success. In this presentation, we will discuss how ELA teachers can connect the key shifts with STEM. Participants will learn what these shifts really mean; how the various reading informational text standards connect to support them; and practical applications for addressing STEM and shifts in the classroom.

Chan Cleveland is executive vice president of The Kirkland Group, an educational firm that provides technical assistance to school districts throughout the southeastern region.
