Principals, how often are you hearing from your teachers, “But my students just can’t read the text!” Have you been asked by a group of frustrated teachers, “How did they get to 6th grade, 7th grade, high school, if they can’t understand what they read?” Understanding the complex level text required of MCCRS is a challenge for students in grades 6 -10, and thus is a challenge for their teachers.  PREPS is pleased to offer a full day workshop on reading comprehension strategies for secondary teachers.  Extensive research documents that students should use similar strategies in all content areas, so the workshop will provide a chance for teams of teachers in ELA, science, and social studies to work together.

As a PREPS member you and your faculty are invited to attend free regional training provided by Generation Ready.  Seating is limited, so reserve your spots as soon as possible.  To register online visit our website at . Improving Reading Comprehension Skills at the Secondary Level

With more complex text at all grade levels and reading skills an integral part of all assessments including ACT, students’ having reading comprehension skills on and above grade level is essential.  Yet, we recognize that this skill is often a deficit in our secondary students.
